Number Series Involving Multiplication

Number series is a progression or an ordered list of numbers governed by a pattern or rule. Numbers in a sequence are called terms. A sequence that continues indefinitely without terminating is referred to as infinite sequence, whereas a sequence with an end is known as finite sequence. Questions related to Number Series series can be solved by using Multiplication. In this method, we will multiply the term with some number to get the second term and second term with some number to get the third term and so on. On the basis of the pattern, we will find the next number in the series.

Some examples are :

Illustration :  7, 49, 343, 2401, ?

A) 8077

B) 2407

C) 4802

D) 16807

Answer : D

Solution : The numbers are multiplied by 7.

Therefore , the next term will be 2401 times 7 = 16807.

Illustration : Find the next number in the series.

2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, …,

A)  250

B)  256

C)  512

D)  290

Answer : B

Solution : Multiply first term with 2 to get the second term (4), multiply second term with 2 to get the third term (8) and so on. Thus, multiplying 128 with 2 will be 256 and that is the answer.
